Junk Email Current Blocking Action Anti-relay Measures

Authorisation has now been enabled on the central mail servers in order to stop junk mail senders from using them as relays. This measure was essential as some sites block any address implicated in distribution of junk email, including innocent third party relays. An error message is generated when such email is blocked. No legitimate users should be effected, although warning messages were issued giving clear advice on correct configuration of email software during the initial weeks of blocking. Having blocked relaying of email, we can now contact other sites who relay junk email to us and encourage them to block such traffic; initial responses in this area have been encouraging.
